📖 Using the Elementor Plugin

What's wrong with Gutenberg?

Building WP pages can be done with the built-in Gutenberg editor, but may pros want tools that can provide additional design help when it comes to building websites. A case can be made for the need for tools that enhance the design process. This article makes the case for using a page building plugin called Elementor to enhance the design process. Elementor is a design tool that can be used with a variety of themes to create templates for a variety of WP pages.

Compatibility

To use professional grade tools you need to be careful you are choosing compatible tools. One premium theme developed by Elementor is Hello. The Hello theme is designed by the same developers that support Elementor and is recommended by the WP core team and should be a very compatible theme. Elementor has a large library of tutorial videos on YouTube to help you get started.

Third Party Themes

Other themes from third party developers are also compatible with Elementor and have a good following of developers. Many of these themes want to entice developers to use their materials and offer a free version for them to try out. These free versions have some great tools built in and designers willing to share page templates.

OceanWP is a theme that is one of the more popular third party themes compatible with Elementor. A developer/designer named Tyler Moore uses OceanWP to produce WP website pages and templates in his YouTube video tutorials and offers free templates to use with the theme. This can be a great way to get started with professional grade tools. Be suer to install the recommended Ocean Extra plugin to get the most out of this theme.

Templating

Whether you choose a WP core theme or a third party developer theme, you should give the Elementor WYSIWYG editor to expand your design abilities. Creating pages with Elementor allows you to take your page designs and save them as templates in WP and you can create single post templates. You also have a large variety of designer produced templates to use. Many developers will choose an available template as the basis of a page and work on modifying it to meet their needs. After all, if you can find a template design that meets most of your needs, why would you want to re-invent the wheel?
